my husband is getting called on by an elder I hate
by homeschool inmy husband was not going to go to the memorial, but then his sister started bullying him via texts...saying that he needed to reconsider his decision not to go.
i work on saturdays usually, and was not home yesterday when an elder (who tried to pursuade my husband to quit dating me a year and a half ago) dropped by to tell him how great it was to see him at the memorial.
hubby is inactive and does not believe the jw's anymore (i'm 99% sure).

I guess I wouldn't "insist"on any thing, just because it makes you look desperate. I've only been out for about 11 months and my mind is made up, his probably is too. Don't worry too much about him going to memorial, my husband did too because of family pressure. The whole night just made him more disgruntled regarding the family that guilt ed him into going. Believe me nothing magical happened there. Anyway welcome to the board and look forward to hearing more from you. NMKA

Outa, that is so funny. It reminds me of an old Oprah I watched on the DVR the other day about the big Mormon compound out west and the little kids sitting around in their prairie dresses. Oprah asked the teacher if they teach that a man landed on the moon. She said we don't teach that it didn't happen, we just don't teach it all. That's kind of how I imagine a JW school. The popular thing to do in our area now among the JW's is this home schooling program that is done on the computer. It must be state funded or something because even the ones that are dirt poor have a computer for each kid. Apparently the school notifies parents if their children use the computer for anything other than school business. One friend of ours, whose daughter's were on stage for giving up their high school career to home school, were notified in the middle of the night that one of their little cherubs were looking at pee pees and woo woos on line. So much for protecting them from pee pees.

I would keep those memories repressed too! ha ha. Seriously, (ashamed to admit this) I sought out one of these school for my one son many years ago. I was paranoid to send him to school with all those evil worldly 5 year olds. Anyway I gathered all the info by mail and then phoned the "sister" that ran it to ask her some basic questions, she was such a royal beatch that I never considered it again. I would be interested to hear more about your experiences there.

Do you remeber being at the Circuit Assembies and District Conventions hearing those "if only" talks
by StoneWall ini can remember being at many of the ca and dc and hearing those talks about the people that had left the org.
and then came back.
usually it was supposedly quoting a handwritten letter that we never got to see or an.

It's funny my husband and I were just talking about, "what if we did listen"? We would not have gotten married because there were a bunch of kooks at our hall that told us not to bother planning our wedding because armageddon was coming that fall. Then everyone said don't buy a house it will be too distracting. That's when articles about responsible child bearing were in full swing - so don't have kids either. Then against everyone's advice we took turns going back to school, that was the really bad one. So I always remind myself "had I listened" I would be a childless, homeless, uneducated spinster.

'Just as important as the preaching work' question. Please respond.
by compound complex ina thread regarding the wt view of the importance of good works, whose title i cannot recall, was posted not too long ago.
there has been talk locally about a watchtower that equates these acts of charity with the preaching work.
is that a correct interpretation of present truth?.

Ironically that was one of the points Ray Franz was trying to make when he was on the governing body, that not all Kingdom service is ministry.

***Things You'd Like To Say But Stifle Yourself From Saying***
by minimus indue to the fact that my mother and some other relatives and a handful of friends are devout jehovah's witnesses, i sometimes stifle my remarks regarding "the truth".. my mother asked me if i felt bad at all for not attending the memorial this year.
(she still holds hope i might come back).
i simply said that i did not feel bad at all.

Boy, it's tough. I have to install a new filter every time I see a family member. Can't talk about things I've learned regarding JW's, can't talk about work or friends I have there, can't even talk about the kids because they are in sports and have girl friends etc. I was droning on about the weather but now lately that gets us on the topic of global warming and how armageddon's gotta come soon.
